John J. Dougan, 99, of Topeka, KS, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born May 2, 1924 in Topeka, KS, the son of Harold B. and Blanche (Coffey) Dougan.
John proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He retired as Storekeeper First Class E-6, after 20 years of service. John also worked for the Kansas Turnpike Authority, retiring after 22 years.
He married Lorraine Tillman on July 25, 1942 in Lawrence, KS. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2009, after 66 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Caulfield; twin sister, Mary Dougan; sister, Marvel Dougan and 3 brothers, Earl, Bob and Jim Dougan.
Survivors include 2 sons, Rod Dougan (Vicki) of Houston, TX and Tom Dougan (Sandy) of Topeka, KS; 4 grandchildren, Greg Bradley (Shannon) of Sequim, WA, Scott Dougan (Jennifer) of Prairie Village, KS, Adam Dougan (Tiffany) of Topeka, KS and Kelly Meyer (Clint) of Hiawatha, KS and 3 great-grandchildren, Larry Dougan, Samuel Dougan, Jackson Meyer and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Service with Military Honors will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Auburn Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Holton V.F.W. 1367 c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
