Obituary

Denison-John O. Boyles, 87, of Denison, KS, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Holton Community Hospital. He was born August 10, 1920 in Denison, KS the son of John L. and Pearl Hollenbeck Boyles.
John graduated from Denison High School in 1938. He was a lifelong member of the Denison community. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II serving in the Aleutian Islands. After serving in the military, he owned and operated Boyles & Hower Trucking Company in Denison, then he owned and operated A & B Market in Denison for 21 years and later worked for USD 336 from 1980 – 2005.
He was a member of the Denison Bible Church, a Master Mason in the Mayetta Lodge A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Eastern Star.
He married Ida Anderson on February 18, 1949 in Fayetteville, AR. She survives. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Gayla McKinsey of Coos Bay, OR, Patricia Cummings and her husband, Steve of Redding, CA; 2 sons, J.D. Boyles and his wife, Judy of Topeka, KS, Rex S. Boyles of Topeka, KS; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and expecting a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hower and a granddaughter.
Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Denison Cemetery. Family will greet friends 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Denison Bible Church sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
