Joe White, 79, of Denison passed away Friday, December 13th, 2013 in Topeka.
He was born February 3, 1934 in Brawley, California the son of Joe W. and Alice (Robbins) White. When Joe was two years old his mother passed away and he went to live with his grandparents on their ranch in Brawley. He learned to ride horses before he could walk. While attending Cal Poly University in Pomona, California he was drafted with the United States Army and proudly served his country in France as an Army Medic. On March 4, 1956 Joe married the love of his life, Beverly Jean Zinn in El Centro, California. Joe was a general foreman in the Plate Mill at Kaiser Steel in Fontana, California and they had lived in Etiwanda, California for thirty years before retiring and moving to Kansas. After retirement Joe and Beverly traveled the United States in their RV. Beverly preceded Joe in Death on July 10, 2013 after 57 years of marriage.
Joe was a member of Denison Bible Church and was previously a member of The Elks in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Cal Poly University Rodeo Team while attending college in Pomona.
He is survived by: his son, Joe "Chip" White, Jr. of East Highlands, CA; his daughter, Melanie Melcher and her husband Mark of Holton, KS; and his 5 grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter. In addition to Beverly, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy White and his son, Jeffrey White.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Denison Cemetery.
