Joan Marie Mattox Hosler, 70, of Valley Falls, went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 13, 2024. She was born November 15, 1953 in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of Charles Mattox, Sr. and Clara Allene Mitchell Mattox.

She attended Winchester Grade School, one year of high school in Winchester, and three years at JCN in Nortonville, graduating in 1971. She was a member of the last graduating class of St Margaret's School of Nursing; graduating in 1974.

Nursing was her mission in life. She worked for Jefferson County Memorial Hospital and Geriatric Center in Winchester, Hickory Pointe Nursing Facility in Oskaloosa and finished her career at Jefferson County Home Health and Hospice in Oskaloosa. Through her work she met so many beautiful and talented people.

Joan married John E. Hosler on October 12, 1974 in Winchester. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1997 as the result of a vehicle accident.

Survivors include her 4 daughters, Amy Gilchrist of Onaga, KS, Christina Weber (Eric) of Berryton, KS, Glee Hosler of Valley Falls, KS and Melody Hosler (Alex Nuss) of Valley Falls, KS; 6 grandchildren, Michelle (Tyrell), Rebecca, Dakota, Kaori, Samson and Kinley; great-grandchildren, Izzabella and Jazper; 3 sisters, Janice Nelson (James) of Wasilla, AK, Joyce Lieb (Sonny) of Norman, OK and Jeanine Lillo (John) of Anchorage, AK and a brother, Charles Mattox, Jr. (Helen) of Trimble, MO.

Joan was a longtime member of the Valley Falls Christian Church and loved to spend her time attending her grandchildrens' sporting and various activities.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Valley Falls Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Joan will lie in state beginning 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning until visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
