Jerry Leon Horton, 68, of Sedalia, MO, formerly of Topeka, KS passed away June 23, 2008. He was born February 20, 1940 in Maryland, the son of Roy and Lillian Horton. He grew up in Wetmore, KS and graduated from Wetmore High School in 1958.
Jerry was a Project Manager for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, MO and the Fellowship of Christian Martial Artists and First Church of Hapkido. He was a veteran motorcycle rider and a member of A.B.A.T.E. of Kansas. He was also a member of the OZ HOG Chapter of Topeka, KS, Central Missouri Sedalia Harley Owners Group and Freedom of the Road Riders.
He was married to Carol Grubb in 1960 and they made their home in Topeka, KS along with their children, Jeffery, Cathy and Kevin Horton. He later married Susan Hansen of Sedalia, MO who survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Lillian Horton; his sons, Jeff Horton and wife, Vicki and Kevin Horton and wife, Kelly; his daughter, Cathy Nesbitt and husband, Rick; his step-children, Kristen Carothers and Matthew and Christopher Hansen; his sister, Loudell Johnson and husband, Richard; his brothers, Randy Horton and wife, Marilyn and Jim Horton and wife, Cathy; 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS. His ashes will be laid to rest at the Wetmore Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
