Netawaka- Janos A. "John" Kuti, 70, of Netawaka passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008 at V.A. Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born March 12, 1938 in Pecel, Hungary the son of Janos A. and Zsuzsanna Vjasz Kuti.
He graduated from high school in Hungary and came to the United States in 1957 as a Hungarian Freedom Fighter refugee. He served in the United States Army from 1962 – 1964 during the Vietnam War.
He came to New York, NY and graduated from Mechanics Institute in New York. He worked at John Mansville Building on 42nd St. and Radio City Music Hall both in New York City. He also was a boiler plant manager for Goodyear and heating plant operator for the VA Hospital both in Topeka, KS.
Mr. Kuti is a member of the St. Leo Catholic Church in Horton, a 4th degree charter member of Knights of Columbus at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore, KS; a mason, a member of the American Legion Post #58 in Topeka, Polar Star Lodge #130 in Whiting, KS and Orient Lodge #59 in Topeka, KS.
He married Loretta M. Auton on April 18, 1965 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in New York City. She survives. Other survivors include a sister, Zsuzsanna Almasi and her husband Laszlo of Pecel, Hungary; also, Peter Kuti of Belton, MO, Chris Kuti and his wife Annette and son Zachary of Topeka, KS, Melinda Kuti of San Diego, CA, a mother-in-law, Opal Douglas of Netawaka, KS and many other family members here and in Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Laura Kuti and a brother, Attila Kuti.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Horton, KS. Burial will be in the Netawaka Cemetery. Scripture Service will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with visitation to follow. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O.
