HOLTON- James Dean "J.D." McDaniel, 78, of Holton, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born September 8, 1927 in Topeka, KS the son of Perry F. and Gladys Thompson McDaniel. He finished high school while he was in the military and later received an engineering degree from the University of Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
J.D. worked for Construction Machinery Inc. in Oklahoma City for many years and retired from there in 1968. He lived in Topeka before moving to Holton 13 years ago. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton. He was an accomplished pianist and belonged to the Musicians Union #36-665. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post #1367 in Holton.
He was married to Helen Smallfield on November 25, 1961 in Enid, OK. She survives. Other survivors include 2 sons, William McDaniel of Alma, KS and Robert McDaniel and his wife, Nora of Sioux Falls, SD, 4 daughters, Tracie Riffey and her husband, J.E. of Mayetta, KS, Dawn Brackemyer and her husband, Michael of Topeka, KS, Sally Hatfield and her husband, Levi of Great Bend, KS and Amie McDaniel of Larned, KS, a sister, Patricia Stubblefield of Topeka, a brother, Warren McDaniel, 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He will lie in state at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton where the family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Private family interment will be in Holton Cemetery. A public Memorial Service will be held the following week at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton.
