Mayetta-James Jerry Jewell, 70, was found November 22, 2007 at his home. He was born January 26, 1937 in Lincoln, KS the son of Charles M. and Vaughn Hazel McCormick Jewell.
He had lived in the Mayetta community since 1983 and had previously lived in Whiting. He was a retired farmer and also had retired in 1997 from Vanguard in Topeka. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. Mr. Jewell was a member of the First Christian Church in Horton and the Moose Lodge #555 in Topeka.
Survivors include 2 sons William H. Jewell of Mayetta, Clarence D. Jewell of Ottawa; a daughter Charlotte M. Pinick of Emporia; 5 sisters Carrie Schroder of Hunter, KS, Mildred Traphagen of Hoyt, KS, Ruth Hittle of Carbondale, KS, Vaughn Kreider of Horton, KS, Pam Underwood of Topeka; 2 brothers Dennie Jewell of Holton, KS, Charles Jewell of Mayetta, KS; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded by 2 sisters Kate McGee, Nellie Coloff,; 3 brothers Ray Jewell, Bill Jewell and John Jewell.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Assoc. or V.F.W.
