James F. Fitzgerald, 86, of Mayetta, KS passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born June 20, 1922 northwest of Mayetta, KS, the son of Jack and Edna Bryan Fitzgerald.
He attended Rock Brook Grade School southwest of Holton and graduated form Mayetta High School in 1939. He was a farmer and stockman for most of his live in the Mayetta Community.
Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta, KS, a member of the Moose Lodge in Topeka, KS and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Holton, KS.
He married N. Irene Bernritter on October 9, 1965 in Topeka, KS. She passed away August 12, 2002.
Survivors include a sister, Darlene Whitehorn and her husband, Norman of Tyler, TX; nephews, Stan Whitehorn of Bryan, TX, and Gary Whitehorn of Longview, TX; and nieces, Marcia Stolicker and Lisa Fitzgerald both of California; a step-son, Donald Reding of Mayetta, KS; a step-daughter, Doris Longnecker of Pequot Lakes, MN; and 5 step-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening with visitation to follow from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Holton.
