HOLTON-James W. "Bill" Craig, 84, of Holton, KS passed away January 5, 2009 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga, KS. He was born August 27, 1924 in Atwood, KS the son of Homer C. and Neva L. Crabb Craig.
He graduated from Goodland High School in 1942. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He had lived in the Holton community since 1960 and had previously lived in Manhattan. He was a farmer/stockman and had co-owned and operated Craig's IGA in Holton for many years.
He was a life member of the Holton VFW Post #1376, a member of the Holton Masonic Lodge #42 and a member of OES in Holton.
Mr. Craig married Sylvia M. Cody on April 29, 1948 in Kanorado, KS. She survives. Other survivors include 2 sons, Jim Craig and Jeff Craig both of Holton, KS; a sister, Mary Silver of Craig, CO; a brother, Homer Cecil "Jim" Craig of Mobile, AL; a daughter-in-law, Terry Craig of Holton, KS; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Lea Jameson on March 7, 1973; a son, Jerry Craig on July 20, 2006; and a brother, Kenneth "Spud" Craig on May 12, 2003.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 10, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
