Obituary

James G. Ackeret, 69, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Holton and Soldier, died peacefully in his sleep due to a brain tumor on February 5, 2013 in Charlotte, NC.

James, better known as Jim, Bud or Uncle Buddy, was born in Holton on April 15, 1943 the son of John A. and Nancy Caroline Ackeret. He was attending Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia, Kansas when he was called up in the Army National Guard to serve in the Vietnam War as a combat officer. After proudly serving his country he returned to college and graduated with a B.S.E and M.S.E. He obtained many honors during his life including: first in Elementary School Counseling Program in Kansas, first in Amvets National Mobile Service, top in War College Graduate and served in the Veteran's Administration. Mr. Ackeret was a member of the Methodist Church in Huntersville, NC and a "Man of Faith".

Jim is survived by: his brothers, John and Roger Ackeret both of Wichita, KS and Gary Ackeret of Topeka, KS; and his sister, Bonnie (Ackeret) Foster of Jasper, FL.

Mr. Ackeret had a life of servitude and will be greatly missed by his family. Memorial Graveside Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Bucks Grove Cemetery, west of Holton, KS. Full military honors will be presented.
