J. Douglas "Doug" Heath, 76, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka, KS, with family by his side. He was born August 24, 1946 in Baltimore, MD, the son of James Edwin and Mary "Evelyn" (Daily) Heath.
Doug graduated from Main Township High School East in 1963 in Parkridge, IL. He attended The University of Illinois in Twin City, IL and later graduated from Kansas State University in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Science.
Doug was a Computer Tech from the age of 17, until retirement. He worked as a television repairman in Parkridge, IL and served an internship with Zenith Radio in Evanston, IL. While in Kansas, he was a Computer Programmer for Farm Bureau, KSU Administrator for the computer center, Director of the computer center at Missouri Western University and IT Consultant for Sperry (now Unisys). He also worked for KGE- setting up the computer center for Wolf Creek Nuclear, Hertz Rent A Car and retired in 2012 from IBM.
He was a member of Teta Xi Fraternity, Manhattan Police Reserve, EMT for St. Joseph Ambulance Service, Edmond Police and Fire Department Auxiliary and E.A.R.S. (Edmond Amateur Radio Society).
Doug married Janet Elaine Pugh on August 26, 1967 in Mayetta, KS. Doug wanted it to be known, that his wife and love of his life, nearly 55 years, was always by his side. Doug and Janet met at the Engineering Department at KSU during student jobs.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of the home; son, Dustin Douglas Heath (Linda) of Hermitage, TN; 2 step-grandsons, Jeff and Tony Kane; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Mary Evelyn Heath; sister, Eileen Gail Vankirk and step-great-grandson, River Kane.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Walnut Hill Cemetery (north of Silver Lake). Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Midland Hospice Care or Edmond Amateur Radio Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
