Obituary

Isabelle "Mak-Ke-yo" Thomas, 83, of Mayetta died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
Isabelle was born July 13, 1922 in Mayetta, the daughter of Charles and Alice Lasley Nioce. She was a life long resident of Mayetta and had attended Holton High School.
She was a seamstress for Slimaker Dress Factory and had also worked in Atchison.
Isabelle was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, a chairwoman for the Potawatomi Pow Wow Club, she was involved in the development of the American Indian Day for the Potawatomi in Kansas, she was a member of the Drum religion and had attended Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.
She married Albert Wahweotten in 1940, they later divorced. She later married Hollis Thomas in 1965, he died in 2003. She was also preceded in death by a sister Vivian Nioce, a brother Edgar Nioce and her step-father Joseph Nioce.
Survivors include 3 sons Vernon Wahweotten and Warren Wahweotten both of Mayetta, James Lyddane of Topeka; a daughter Linda Wahweotten of Holton; 3 sisters Loretta Rosenthal of Cherokee, IA, Vestina Nonken of Holton, Inez Aikin of Fayetteville, GA, Jeanette Cummings of Hutchison;12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Drum services will be Tuesday evening, April 25, 2006 at the Dancegroud Building in Mayetta. Burial will be Wednesday afternoon in the Shipshee Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
