IOLA F. ARMSTEAD

OZAWKIE - Iola F. Armstead, 96, Ozawkie, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at Village Villa in Nortonville.
She was born in 1911, at Valley Falls, the daughter of James and Edna Towler Meredith. She graduated from Westward Rural Elementary School and Valley Falls High School. She received her Teaching Certificate from Emporia State Teacher's College and taught for two years in rural schools in Jefferson County.
Iola was a homemaker and also was a cook for 16 years at Valley Health Care Center. She was also an Avon Sales Representative for over 25 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Valley Falls and also the Bluemound Sunshine Club.
She married Claude H. Armstead on May 8, 1930, at Oskaloosa. He died on Sept. 12, 1976. She was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Naomi C. Wilson and two brothers, Orval Meredith and Harold Meredith.
Survivors include two sons, Dean L. Armstead, Wamego, and Claude Eugene Armstead, San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Donna L. Schneider, Huston, TX, and Sue E. Kabriel, Ozawkie; a sister, Vera Welborn, Valley Falls; 15 grandchildren, 14 great -grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the First Christian Church in Valley Falls. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
