Holton-Howard Shaffer Crow, 92, of Holton, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Midland Hospice in Topeka. He was born January 15, 1915 in Bigelow, MO the son of Gooley and Pearl Schaffer Crow. He was raised near Mound City, MO, in Holt County, and graduated from Mound City High School in 1932. He was a long time owner of Holton Independent Insurance Agency and a Real Estate Broker for over 40 years. He was also known as a cattleman. He served as a Director on the board of the Marysville Mutual Insurance Company for 25 years.
Mr. Crow served in the United States Army from 1941 - 1946 during World War II. He served in the Central European Theatre. He finished his military career in 1953 with the Army Reserve.
He was a member of the Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #42 in Holton, member of York Rite Commondry #13 in Hiawatha, a former member of Holton Rotary Club, life time member of American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1367 in Holton and a long time member of the Holton City Planning Commission.
He married Imogene K. Singer on November 28, 1943 in Holton, KS. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2006.
Survivors include one son H. Keith Crow and his wife Beth of Wichita, KS, a grandson Kyle Crow and his wife Christina of Wichita; 2 granddaughters Kari Wiechman and her husband Chad of Wichita, KS, Kendra Crow of Wichita; 2 great grandsons Peyton and Parker Wiechman of the home; 3 sisters Lucille Norman of Mound City, MO, Elizabeth Driver of Jefferson City, MO, Vona Moorman of Mound City, MO and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with Pastor Kent Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. Friday morning until service time. Memorials may be given to Midland Hospice or Evangel United Methodist Church and sent in c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O.
