HOLTON- Helen E. Welliever, 100, of Holton, KS passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. She was born August 17, 1911 in Soldier, KS the daughter of George and Cora Belle (Schantz) Thompson.
Helen graduated from Soldier High School in 1929 as Valedictorian. After graduation she taught in various country schools in Jackson and Nemaha counties.
Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton. She taught Sunday school and was active in the United Methodist Women and Alpha Circle. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary in Holton. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. Helen was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Holton Country Club. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing and gardening.
She married Maurice O. "Stub" Welliever on May 23, 1936 in Seneca, KS. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1984. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Elbert "Bo" Thompson in 2004.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Welliever (Karen) of Holton; a daughter, Brenda Fletcher (Dean) of Holton; a sister, Patricia Meek of Chilicothe, MO; a brother, L.L. Thompson of Roswell, MO; 5 grandchildren, Dru Welliever, Molly Fox, Amy Mosier, Brendan and Brett Fletcher; 9 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 2 step great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Interment will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
