Hazel F. Luthi, 99, Topeka, formerly of Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at the Lexington Park Nursing Center in Topeka.
She was born on May 6, 1914, in rural Clay County, the daughter of Harry and Bertha Thrush Bisel.
She married Frank M. Luthi on June 10, 1934, at Clay Center. They farmed near Ozawkie and then moved in 1968 to another farm south of Valley Falls. Hazel had worked as a cook at the Valley View Nursing Home in Valley Falls.
She had been a member of the former Wesleyan Methodist Church in Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on Sept. 29, 1985; two sons, Philip Luthi and Loren Luthi, three grandsons, Todd, Jerry and Jamie Luthi; three brothers, Benison, Marvin and Grant Bisel, and three sisters, Goldie Gurtler, Alma Sunstrom and Naomi Bisel.
Survivors include four sons, Duane (Bonnie) Luthi, Zepher Hills, FL, Frank Luthi, Jr., Topeka, Francis (Evelyn) Luthi, Silver Lake, and Warren Luthi, Topeka; three brothers, Dale Bisel, El Dorado, David Bisel, Dade City, FL, and Ralph Bisel, Lakeland, FL; three sisters, Eunice Kershner and Nadine Atwood, both of Topeka, and Bertha Mary Golden, Ft. Scott; 13 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
