DENISON- Harriett A. Strawn Burns, 97, of Denison, KS died Friday, March 16, 2007 at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton. She was born September 3, 1909 in Rydal, KS, the daughter of William O. and Grace Walter Gile.
Harriett was a long time resident of Denison and had previously lived in Valley Falls, KS and on a farm southwest of Holton, KS. She had worked in the lunchroom at the Denison school from 1955 to 1964 and then worked as a nurse's aide for 10 years. She was a member of the Denison Bible Church.
She was married to William Ellis Strawn on May 2, 1932. He died November 9, 1964. She was married to George Raymond Burns on May 23, 1975 in Holton. He died January 6, 1989. Survivors include her sons, Robert Strawn of Denison, KS and Curtis Strawn of Topeka, KS; her daughter, Sarah DeVader of Holton, KS; 2 step-sons, Edwin "Buzz" Burns of Manhattan, KS and Martin Burns of Holton, KS; 3 step-daughters, Mary Carr and Julia Kennedy both of Topeka, KS and Theresa McNary of Ozawkie, KS; her sister, Margaret Hutchison of Topeka, KS and many grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Denison Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
