HAROLD E. ROYER
Harold E. Royer, 88, Valley Falls, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Westwood Manor in Topeka.
Harold worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka for thirty years and was also a blacksmith in Valley Falls.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1918, at Shenandoah, IA, the son of Clark S and Orpha Dickey Royer. His parents moved to Valley Falls when he was two years old. He served in the US Army in WW II and was part of the Allied Invasion Force on Omaha Beach at Normandy, France. He was awarded a Purple Heart medal.
He was a member of the McLouth and Meriden Antique Tractor Associations, Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at Valley Falls, American Legion Bicentennial Post 255 at Ozawkie, and Local 307 of United Steel Workers. He had attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Valley Falls.
He married Lois Allen on June 2, 1951, at Valley Falls. They were divorced. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Royer and Claude Royer.
Survivors include two sons, Clark Royer, Valley Falls, and Gary Royer, McLouth; a daughter, Tracy Harrington, Valley Falls; two brothers, Milton Royer, Valley Falls, and Don Royer, Carbondale; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2007, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial with military honors conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, V.F.W., will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
