HOLTON- Glenda Mae (Ely) Whearty, 71, of Holton, KS passed away February 18, 2012 at Medicalodge Jackson County in Holton. She was born November 7, 1940 in Holton the only child of Glen William and Edna (Pooler) Ely.

Glenda graduated 8th grade from South Cedar Grade School. She also graduated from Mayetta High School in 1958. She had grown up in the Mayetta community, had lived in Westmoreland from 1959 – 1985 and returned to Mayetta and Holton area until her death.

Glenda was a certified nurse aide, certified medication aide and certified heart technician. She worked at Dechairo Hospital in Westmoreland for 10 years, Holton Community Hospital for 10 years, St. Francis Hospital in Topeka for 1 ½ years and for several nursing homes. She was a member of the Mayetta Christian Church, a member of Mayetta 4-Korner Klub (Her mother Edna organized 4-Korner Klub in 1941.)

She married Dale E. Whearty on August 23, 1959 in Westmoreland, they later divorced. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vida Jo Whearty on May 23, 1966.

Survivors include 3 sons, Dee Whearty and his wife Julie of Grandview, MO, Les Whearty and his wife Brenda of Wamego, KS and Johnny Whearty and Jessie of Westmoreland, KS; 2 daughters, Dayla Gonzales and her husband Rene of Belton, TX and Darla Haverkamp and her husband Ed of Holton, KS; 3 grandchildren, Alessa Gonzales and Trent and Trey Haverkamp; 6 step-grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Alicia and Jerrica Gonzales, Kellay Herrera and Justin and Shelby Jordan and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.
