Glenda L. Stenger, 69, of Holton, KS passed away October 12, 2012 at her home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born November 30, 1942 in Pryor, OK the daughter of Dewey and Virginia (Powell) Collins.
Glenda attended Hoyt, Mayetta, Holton schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1961. She graduated from Joseph's Continental cosmetology college in Topeka. She owned and operated Glenda's Shear Perfection in Holton for 17 years, taught beauty school at Joseph's Continental in Topeka for 4 years and was coordinator of caregivers for Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Mayetta. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation, Holton Business Women, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #1367 and former member of Allied Tribes.
Glenda married Bill Bechtel in 1961 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1980. She later married Steve Stenger on June 8, 1985 in Holton. He survives of the home. She is also survived by 3 sons, Bill Bechtel (Denise) of The Colony, TX, Don Bechtel (Teresa) of Belton, TX and Jimmie Bechtel (Jennifer) of Holton, KS; 2 sisters, Wauneta Robertson of Topeka, KS and Belva Miffleton of Schertz, TX; 4 brothers, Don Collins and Joe Collins both of Holton, KS, George Collins of Sunland, CA and Truman Collins of Topeka, KS; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Tiffany, Priscilla, Brandon and Hannah Bechtel and Jacob Hess and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Lucille Wood, Helen Collins, Judy Copenhefer and Betty Vickrey and a brother, Ted Collins.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery.
