Obituary

Glen W. Rogers, 85, of Holton, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Medicalodges Jackson County. He was born on April 27, 1928, in Greenleaf, Kansas, the son of Erie A. and Gladys M. (Johnson) Rogers. He graduated from Washington High School, Washington, Kansas, in 1945. He joined the United States Navy in 1946 and served until honorably discharged in 1948.

He was united in marriage to Julia F. Miller on September 18, 1949, in Marysville, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, James (Susan) Rogers of Manhattan, Kansas, his daughter, Terry (Jerry) Bueker of rural Holton, his three grandchildren, Jerri (Doug) Newman of Shawnee, Kansas, Kelli (Joshua) McClintock of Holton, and Jeffrey (Sarah) Draper also of Holton, his nine great-grandchildren, Savhannah, Madie, Deanna, Gracie, Braylon, Jenna, Reese, Mackenna, and Joshua, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie Odgers and Opal Boyle, and his brother, Lyle Rogers.

Glen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton and had served on the Board of Trustees and also as an usher. He had also served on the City Planning Commission, the NEK-CAP board, and belonged to the Holton Rotary International for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF and AM, Holton Lodge #42, receiving his 50-year pin and serving as Master and District Deputy Grand Master. In his younger years in Washington, he had also served as a 4-H leader for several years.

Glen farmed in the Washington, Kansas, area for 15 years before moving to Holton in 1963. He then became an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance and served the Holton and Jackson County area for 30 years until his retirement in 1993. He was also a talented woodworker, a lifelong master of woodcrafts, and he spent his retirement years building and making wood creations and attending countless craft shows across the State where he offered his products for sale. In addition, he made many beautiful wood creations by order which are proudly displayed in local businesses and in private homes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday, July 1, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
