SOLDIER- Gerald Wesley Denny, 82, of Soldier, KS passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka. He was born November 29, 1928 in Corning, KS the son of Wesley and Sophia Anna (Claycamp) Denny.
Gerry graduated from Edgerton High School; after high school he served in the United States Army Air Corp.
Gerry had lived in the Soldier community for 22 years and had previously lived in Denver, CO. He was a diesel mechanic and an over the road truck driver. He had worked for RTD as a mechanic in Denver, CO. Gerry was a member of the Soldier Christian Church.
He married Barbara C. Perdue on June 18, 1950 in Gardner, KS. She survives. Survivors include his wife Barbara Denny of the home; 3 sons, Joe Denny of Soldier, Rick Denny (Dana) of Denver, CO, David Denny (Jan) of St. Francis, KS; a daughter, Brenda Bishop (Brian) of Bayard, NE; a sister, Dorothy Schulz of Gardner, KS; 4 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Gerry was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Teri Anne Denny; a step-grandson, Brian Kiefer; 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Soldier Christian Church. Interment will be in the Soldier Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Soldier Christian Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O.
