Whiting- Gerald "Mac" Eugene McNeel, 75, of Whiting, KS passed away July 19, 2008 at University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1933 in Redvale, CO the son of Noel Joseph and Georgia Columbus Houge McNeel.
Mr. McNeel had lived in Whiting for 8 years and had previously lived in Sahuarita, AZ and Santa Barbara, CA. He served in the United States Navy as a Boilerman 3rd Class aboard the USS Princeton during the Korean War. He traveled with Granite Construction as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Santa Barbara, CA, American Legion Post #109 in Corona De Tucson, AZ, and Operating Engineers Local #12 in CA.
He married Sharon Zufelt on October 25, 1955 in New Mexico, they later divorced. He is survived by a daughter, Tina Higgins of Whiting, KS; a son, Terry Dell McNeel of Mayetta, KS; a sister, Janelle Grasse of Cortez, CO; a brother, Donald Joseph McNeel of Cortez, CO; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Toni Lynn McNeel in 1998.
Mr. McNeel was cremated. A gathering for the Gerald "Mac" McNeel family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. Friday evening, July 25, 2008 at Banner Creek Reservoir shelter house #2. Graveside service with full military honors will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Cortez Cemetery District in Cortez, CO.
