HOLTON- Gerald Lee "Jerry" Martin, 71, of Netawaka, formerly of Holton, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the Holton Hospital. He was born August 12, 1935 in Holton, the son of Paul Sr., and Opal Bailey Martin.
He attended Mayetta High School and later served in the United States Army. When he returned from Korea, he owned and operated a drywall business for 20 years and later worked for the Jackson County Senior Citizen Center for 20 years.
He married Veronica "Kadese" Shoptese on July 31, 1954 in Holton. She died April 18, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a sister Geneva Plantz and a brother Paul Martin, Jr.
Survivors include a son, Mark Martin and his wife Michelle of Netawaka; a daughter, Nancy Martin of Netawaka, 3 sisters; Pat Miller of Holton, Darlene Joy Richardson of Yelm, WA, Carole Hainline of Holton, 2 brothers; Monty Martin of Mobile, AL, Alan Martin of Holton; 7 grandchildren; Erika Nimmo, Kevin Harmon, Derek Martin, David Martin, Daniel Martin, Stacie Martin, Cody Martin and 1 great grandson, Chase Andru Nimmo.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 28th at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family burial will be in Shipshee Cemetery at a later date. He will lie in state beginning Tuesday at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.
