George W. Starkey

George Washington Starkey, 88, of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026 at his home. He was born February 22, 1938 in Spring Valley, IL, the son of Sherman Harvey and Esther (Bellamy) Starkey.

George lived in the Topeka community since 2022 and previously in Illinois, Alabama and Kentucky.

He worked road construction, an interstate truck driver and most recently a factory worker.

George married Arzella Hensley in 1962 in Pity Hill, IL; they were married for over 54 years and later divorced.

Survivors include Arzella Starkey of the home; son, Richard W. Starkey of Streator, IL; 2 daughters, Theresa K. Holloway (Jimmy) of Houston, TX and Ellen L. Winters (Steve) of Topeka, KS; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond T. Starkey; 2 sisters, Dory Alice Starkey and Alma Starkey Gallup and 4 brothers, Lawrence, Ralph, Sheman John and Norman Starkey.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Mercer Funeral Home to help with expenses and sent to P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 6646.
