Obituary

George H. Cochren, 98, of Holton, KS, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Medicalodges of Jackson County. He was born February 9, 1922 in Wetmore, KS the son of John H. and Lena (Wegman) Cochren.

George had lived in Holton since 1963 and previously in Netawaka and Whiting. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked for the Department of Transportation at the State of Kansas for over 26 years. He was also a farmer and stockman.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion Post 44 and V.F.W Post 1367 all in Holton.

George married Zola "Joyce" Plankington on November 8, 1986 in Holton. She preceded him in death on January 13, 1996. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Rogers and a brother, Rev. John "Tell" Cochren.

Survivors include a cousin, Aletha William of Holton, a cousin & care giver Connie Bontrager (Roger) of Holton, 1 sister-in-law, Donna Pearl Christie, 3 nieces, Marie Cochren, Judy Stoner (Darrell) and Sally Cochren and 2 nephews, Bill Rogers (Kathie) and John Rogers (Beabea).

Graveside Service with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Netawaka Cemetery. George will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton beginning Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2020 until noon on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the Holton First Baptist Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
