Geneva I. Lonard, 91, Valley Falls, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.
She was born on Oct. 4, 1921, east of Valley Falls, the daughter of George and Mary Fulton Koons. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1939.
Geneva retired in 1987 from the Kansas State Highway Planning Commission. She was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and was a volunteer at the Clothes Closet, the Valley Falls Historical Museum and Meals on Wheels.
She married Ernest "Ernie" Lonard on Nov. 24, 1941. He died on June 9, 1970. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Eldon, Ed and Glen Koons and a sister, Marguerite Tarulli.
Survivors include four sons, Robert (Glennis) Lonard, Houston, TX, Larry D. (Carol) Lonard, Topeka, Tom (Sharon) Lonard, Topeka, and Jerry (Karen) Lonard, Lenexa; two sisters, Estel Edmonds, McLouth, and Elva Ferrell, Midwest City, OK; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday.
