Obituary

Gale F. Haag, 74 of Holton, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at Medicalodge Jackson County in Holton. Gale was the son of Milton S. and Irma Higley Haag. He grew up on a farm near Holton and graduated from Holton High School in 1956. Gale won the 1st Harry Fortune Award for outstanding athlete at Holton High School. He earned an Associate's Degree in Criminology from Washburn University.

Gale was a farmer. In addition to farming he worked at Goodyear Tire Company, Conroy Construction and for the Fire Marshal's office as an inspector and later as the State Fire Marshal for 8 years.

Gale was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church. He served his church in many ways, serving as a Sunday School teacher and holding nearly every church office. Gale was an avid K-State fan and active in the Holton community.

Gale married Dixie King on February 17, 1957 in Holton. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Natalie Haag and Ken Metz of Topeka, Chris and Sarah Haag of Gardner and Lynn Jenkins of Topeka; 3 sisters, Venita and Dan Fiedler and Micheala and Allen Abel both of Holton and Rhetta "Sue" and Wayne Wheeler of Circleville; 6 grandchildren, Hayley and Hayden Jenkins, Alexandra and Lauren Haag, Maggie and Zeke Metz and much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also has 3 aunties that survive that he was close to; Corrine Burnett of Prairie Village, Lauretta Vance of Topeka and Jean Marie Haag of Hays.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Evangel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery at a later date. Family will greet friends 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the EUM Church or Jackson County Friends of Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 664356.
