Frederick "Fred" A. Means
Frederick "Fred" A. Means, 81, Meriden, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.
Fred was a service manager at Laird-Noller Truck Center in Topeka. He had also been a service manager at Jay Beard Truck Center and had operated a Skelley Service Station, both in Topeka. After retiring, he and his wife, Beth, raised cattle on their farm southwest of Valley Falls.
He was born Dec. 15, 1925 at Rock Creek, the son of Ronald and Golda Mae Krumery Means. He graduated from Eudora High School and later served in the US Navy.
He married Elizabeth Mae Armstrong on March 20, 1949, at Bentonville, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Beth, Meriden; his son, Johnie Means, and his wife, Jessie, Meriden; a brother, Leland Means, Mesa, AZ; two sisters, Ronna Mae Etzel, Topeka, and Nancy Kay Kirkwood, Silver Lake; and four grandchildren, Jamie, John David, Andy and Janey.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Dialysis Service or to Jefferson County Service Organization and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
