Wahwasuck
HORTON- Francis "Big Man" Wahwasuck, 90, of Horton, KS passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 in Flagstaff, AZ. He was born February 26, 1919 in Powhattan, KS, the son of Frank and Mary Allen Wahwassuck.
Francis served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and five bronze service stars. He retired as a maintenance technician for Indian Health Services. He was a member of the Kickapoo Nation and a member of the Kennekuk Indian Church.
He was married to Arlene B. Shipshee on July 2, 1964 in Holton, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Raymond D. Wahwasuck of Horton, KS; his daughters, Carol A. Shopteese and Karen F. Milton both of Horton, KS and Patricia J. Wahwasuck of Powhattan, KS; his sisters, Ramona Wahwassuck and Geraldine Clift both of Horton, KS; his brother, Frank Wahwassuck, Jr. of Horton, KS; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson Caleb Wahwasuck in March 2009.
Wake services will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, December 23, 2009 at the Kickapoo Community Building west of Horton. Burial services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the Kickapoo Community Building and then proceed to Kennekuk Church Cemetery. He will lie in state until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
