Obituary

Floyd Alvin Nevins, 92, Valley Falls, died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born March 14, 1923, at Arrington, the son of Frank Lee and Ruby Edith High Nevins. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1940.

Floyd was Transportation Engineer for USD 338 in Valley Falls from 1955 until he retired in 1985. He had also been head of maintenance for the school district. After retirement he worked part-time as a school bus driver. After high school Floyd farmed until 1946. He later worked for Baker Quarry, Steinmetz Service, Billings Oil Co. and Burk Service Station, all in Valley Falls. He was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church.

He married Florence Naomi Tipling Goodpasture, Aug. 1, 1955, at Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold, in infancy; son, Floyd (Chuck) Nevins; daughter, Caroline Lassiter; son-in-law, Mike Harrington; granddaughter, Lori Lynn Lassiter; and grandson, Scott Harrington.

Survivors include his wife, Florence, of the home; two daughters, Nancy Harrington, Valley Falls, and Shirley (Phil) Burns, West Point, NE; son-in-law, Jackie T. Lassiter, Valley Falls; former daughter-in-law, Marsha Weishaar, Nortonville; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Muscotah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.
