PORT ANGELES-WA- Evelyn Annette Hart Wagoner passed away January 13, 2016, at the age of 100, at the home of her daughter Sherry and son-in-law Nathan Wabaunsee in Port Angeles, WA. Evelyn was born November 3, 1915 the only child of Charles and Annie Eversmeyer Hart.
She grew up on a small farm located on the banks of the Big Blue River northwest of Blue Rapids, KS. She graduated with honors from Blue Rapids High School and attended Kansas State University.
Evelyn married her high school sweetheart, Keith Wagoner on August 10, 1940 and they established their home in Fairview, KS. After her husband's return from service in WWII they moved to Hillsboro, KS for three years and then to Holton, KS in 1949. Holton had been her home until 2013 when she moved to Washington to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was employed at the Holton Recorder for 24 years retiring in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holton.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents, many years ago, her husband Keith in 2001 and her son-in-law Ron Mason in 2015. Survivors are: her daughters, Sherry (Nathan) Wabaunsee of Port Angeles, WA and Kaelyn Mason of Box Elder, SD; her nephew Royce (Nanci) Lemke of Louisiana; and several cousins.
A Celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Fellowship and visitation with the family will follow the celebration at First United Methodist Church in Holton. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Lion's Club Keith Wagoner Scholarship Fund or Heart of Jackson Humane Society in care of Mercer Funeral Home.
