Eva H. Long, 87, of Holton formerly of Soldier died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at a Topeka hospital. She was born December 24, 1918 in Beverly, KS. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Lulie Lavina Cassel Gough.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Trail's Café and other area restaurants. She was a member of H.D.U. at Soldier. She had also lived in Axtell and Vermillion, KS.
Eva married William "Harold" Long on March 5, 1936 in Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2001. She was also preceded by a grandson, Barry LuRoy Long in 1960.
She is survived by daughters, Almetta "Jackie" Bottom of Soldier and Sandra Sawyer of Hoyt; sons, Marvin Long of Hoyt, A. Leon Long of Topeka, Denzel E. Long of Plano, TX, G. Dale Long of Meriden, Dwight C. Long of Topeka, and Randy A. Long of Topeka; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Mercer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Soldier Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the Eva Long Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
