Ernest L. "Ernie" Woods, 84, of Mayetta died Sunday September 11, 2011 at his home. Ernie was born March 3, 1927 in rural Mayetta. He was the son of Harry A. and Nellie Ruth Anderson Woods.
Ernie attended Mayetta schools. He lived in the Mayetta area and had lived in Lecompton for 5 years. He was a farmer and stockman. He retired from Seymour Foods, Inc as an assembler.
Ernie married Dorothy Powell on October 24, 1953 in Topeka. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Virginia "Ginny" Woods of Topeka and Mark and Debbie Woods of Holton; his sister, Hazel Grimes of Ozawkie, KS and granddaughters, Nicole and Marcey Woods. Ernie was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers and his sisters, Florence Smith and Mildred Sanner.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday September 14, 2011 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Brick Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
