Ernest George Burrows, 85, of Holton died Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Onaga Hospital. He was born December 28, 1921 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Earl and Ruth Makepeace Burrows.
He graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa in 1939. He attended the University of Arkansas for two years. Ernest served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He had lived in Holton since 1958 and worked at the V.A. Hospital in Topeka for 27 years.
He was married to Mable McKinstry on May 9, 1983 in Abilene, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Bill Burrows of Salina, KS, his daughter, Kathy Herron of Salina, KS, sisters, Lillian Gumm of Emporia, KS, and Frances Freeburgh of Britt, IA, brother, Wesley Burrows of Kalona, IA, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Bonnie Kerns and Ilah Scott, and a brother Alfred Burrows.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. till service time. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association and sent to Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
