Elsie Margaret Kern, 89, of Mayetta died Monday, February 9, 2009 at a Sabetha care home. She was born August 13, 1919 in Mayetta, KS the daughter of Elmer and Thelma Mapes Johnson. She graduated from Mayetta High School in 1937. She was a member of the Mayetta United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Mayetta.
Elsie married Creston C. Kern on December 12, 1938 in Holton, KS. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2003. She was also preceded by brothers, Donald and Galen Johnson. She is survived by a son, Jim Kern of Mayetta, KS; daughter, Donna Holcomb of Mayetta; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2009 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Mayetta Cemetery.
