Obituary

Elliot "Mwewegishek" Masquat, 47, of Mayetta, KS, passed away on August 31, 2025 at Midland Hospice in Topeka, KS. He was born August 15, 1978 in Topeka, KS the son of Curtis P. "Nin We" and Julia (Harrison) Masquat.

Elliot took much pride in being the caretaker of the Buffalo Pen for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. He helped in the initial phase of starting up the construction of the Buffalo Program. He also worked construction for many years.

He is a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and Drum Religion.

Elliot is survived by his companion, Annie Potts of Mayetta; three children, Curtis, Ila, and Vince Masquat all of Mayetta, KS; three sisters, Angela "Jubby" Masquat of Mayetta, KS, Josie "Mitchi" Masquat of Topeka, KS and Janelle "Zahwee" Masquat of Lawrence, KS and one grandson, Cedar Masquat.

He is preceded death by his parents, Curtis "Nin We" and Julia Masquat and sister, Naomi "Din" J. Masquat.

Drum Service will be Wednesday evening, September 3, 2025 at the Danceground Building on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation. Elliott will lie in state Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be Thursday afternoon, September 4, 2025 at Old Danceground Cemetery.
