Elizabeth Jeanne "Bettie" Shove, 87, of Pleasant Hill, MO, formerly of Havensville, KS passed away May 27, 2010 in Pleasant Hill. She was born July 22, 1922 in Bedford, PA the daughter of Frederick B. Hafer and Nellie B. Folmer. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1939. In her early years, she worked as a waitress and then she worked at Glen L. Martin, manufacturing airplane fuselages in Baltimore during World War II. After her marriage, she moved to Onaga, KS and worked for the Onaga Herald and as a bookkeeper for Onaga Truck and Tractor until retirement. After retirement, she worked as a switchboard operator at Steel and Pipe in Manhattan, Onaga Hospital in sterile supply, childcare and Onaga Auto then officially retiring at the age of 80 years.
She was a member of Bucks Grove United Methodist Church, a member of Eastern Star of Havensville and volunteered at Golden Acres Nursing Home.
Bettie married Winston Wayne Shove on October 6, 1943 in Southmill, NC. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Drusilla Lohr and infant, Phyllis Hafer; three brothers, Neville, Robert and infant, Jackie Hafer.
Survivors include a daughter, Waynetta "Kitsi" Maynor (Pete) of Pleasant Hill, MO; a son, Michael W. Shove (Wilma) of Louisburg, KS; a sister, Norma Scalise of Moneffen, PA; a brother in law, Richard "Dick" Shove (Marlene) of Holton, KS; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Bucks Grove Cemetery. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
