Wetmore- Edwin L. Smith, 86, of Wetmore, KS died Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS. He was born August 13, 1924 in Hiawatha, KS the son of Charles and Pearl (Gilmore) Smith.
He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1942. He worked as a farmer and stockman up until he retired in 2004. He was a member of the Netawaka United Methodist Church and Seneca Masonic Lodge #29. He was a mason for 62 years.
Ed married Virginia June Krebs on November 26, 1946 in Hiawatha. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Schumann and her husband Ron and Lanette McKee and her husband Jack both of Netawaka; five grandchildren, Jamie (Ceela) Schumann, Shelley Schumann, Kenton (Amy) McKee, Nathan (Angela) McKee and Kristen McKee; eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Vernon, Floyd, and Donald Smith; three sisters, Frances Rubert, Evelyn Phillips and Louise Meerpohl; a son, Marvin Lee Smith in 1962 and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Schumann in 1974.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Pastor Roger Frederick will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Powhattan Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
