Edward H. Small, 89, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at a Topeka Care Home. He was born October 24, 1918, in Portland, ME, the son of Sherwood P. and Beatrice Planck Small.
He had a Bachelor's Degree in History from Kansas State University. He was a Curator for the Kansas State Historical Society. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and was later in the National Guard. He had been a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Kingman, KS.
Edward married Agnes Stone on April 12, 1942, in Portland, ME. She survives. He is survived by his children, Donna Dotts and her husband, Jim of Brentwood, CA,; Kim Kickhaefer of Lawrence, KS; Jonathan Small and his wife, Georgia of Topeka; Tim Small of Pittsburg, KS; Melissa Lienemann and her husband Bob of Manhattan, KS; and Chris Small of Salina, KS; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Dotts.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Edward will lie in state from Monday afternoon until noon on Wednesday. Memorials may be given to the Heart of Jackson Humane Society and sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
