SOLDIER- Edward "Dutch" Hill, 94, of Soldier, KS passed away January 25, 2012 at Medicalodge Jackson County. He was born January 16, 1918 on a farm northwest of Goff, KS the son of Paul Atkin and Edna Pearl (Freel) Hill.
Ed had lived in the Soldier community since 1996 and previously lived in Bancroft and Goff area. He was a farmer/stockman for most of his life and from 1982-1995 he was a road maintainer for the Riley Township and had served on the board. He was also a board member for the Soldier Fire Department and Bancroft School.
Ed married Dorothy Maxine Longberg on December 26, 1941 in Oneida, KS. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Brandon Lee Hill in 1995 and 2 brothers, Wilbur "Irish" and Rex R. Hill.
Survivors include 2 sons, Maurice "Rusty" Hill and his wife Joan of Soldier, KS and Francis "Stub" Hill and his wife Joy of Hot Springs Village, AR; a daughter, Judy Cooper and her husband Mike of Galva, KS; a sister, Nora "Sis" Boeding of Lewiston, NE; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Soldier Cemetery.
