Obituary

DENISON- Edward LeMoyne Dodson, 81, of Denison, KS, passed away November 2, 2021 at the Onaga Hospital in Onaga, KS.

LeMoyne, or Lee, as he preferred to be called, was born April 7, 1940 at Christs Hospital in Topeka, KS. The son of Carl E. and Evelyn (Buehler) Dodson.

He was a lifelong resident of Denison, graduating at Denison Rural High School in 1958.

Following graduation, Lemoyne enlisted in the National Guard in 1961. He spent his enlistment time as a member of the Holton based unit, the 137 th Infantry in Company B, before being Honorably Discharged on 1968, just weeks before his unit was to join forces with Colorado to be sent to Vietnam.

LeMoyne was a dairyman for over 30 years, working along side his dad. He was also a self-employed carpenter, working with his good friend, Gary McCrory, or with others who needed help. Often times, he would take on projects on his own, with the help from different family members or friends. One such project was the remodeling of his son, Jim's home north of Holton and the Playhouse he built for his grandchildren.

He also worked at Goodyear in Topeka for a short time. His real love was his family and his farm north of Denison. Every morning he enjoyed driving up there and checking on the renter's cattle, as well as just driving and checking fences and just enjoying taking it all in, with his wife and dog beside him. It was his pride and joy!

On May 3, 1964, LeMoyne married Arlene Wood, his high school sweetheart; at the Denison Bible Church, where he was a lifetime member. He and Arlene celebrated over 57 years together.

One main recent highlight in LeMoyne's life was the completion of being able to recognize and establish the site of the Dodson Hill Grade School. This had been a special project for him for years because his ancestor, Alfred Dodson, had owned the property, but donated part of it for the school to be built in the late 1800's, known as District #30. In July 2020, we celebrated as the plaque and stand were erected on the original grounds of the former grade school. This always gave him pleasure as he would drive past it.

LeMoyne was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Evelyn Dodson and his only brother, Orville Dodson of Onaga on September 20, 2021.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of the home; two sons, Jim and wife Pam of Holton, KS and Joel and wife Jane of Caney, KS; two very special grandchildren, Jordan and Bailey Dodson of Caney, KS; two nephews, Lyndall Dodson and wife Karen of Kearney, MO and Daryl Dodson and wife Gina of Liberal, MO and one sister-in-law, Melba Dodson of Onaga, KS. Along with many friends and relatives who will miss him greatly and his love for telling stories about the past.

***Until we meet again, I'll look after the farm**
