Obituary

Edna May Coleman, 101, Valley Falls, formerly of Denison, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Midland Care Linnwood Park Assisted Living at Valley Falls.

She was born on May 23, 1912, at Birmingham, KS, the daughter of George W. and Annabelle Longenecker Decker. She graduated from Denison Rural High School and then received a BA from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1938.

Edna taught Home Economics and Biology at Denison, Holton and Americus High Schools. She had also taught at the Hoyt Elementary School. She was a high school pep club sponsor and was in charge of concessions. She was a life long quilter and belonged to several quilting clubs and Home Demonstration Units. Edna was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and the church's Martha Circle.

She married Marion Francis "Skip" Coleman on Nov. 21, 1942, at Topeka. He died on Feb. 11, 1995. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Albert, Frank, Sam, John, Phares and Elmer Decker, and three sisters, Irene Castle, Bernice Castle and Georgine Coleman.

Survivors include twin daughters, Georgia Barrow (James Cowden), Santa Rosa, CA, and Georgine Coleman (Joe Carmichael), Denver, CO; a son, Dr. Gary (Marilyn) Coleman, Abilene; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery.
