Obituary

Edith Belle Cox, 101, of Holton died Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Medicalodges Jackson County.
She was born February 20, 1906 at Benton, KS, the daughter of John James and Ortha May Hunt McGehe. She was a graduate of Holton High School, class of 1925. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holton, United Presbyterian Women, V.F.W.Auxiliary #1367, and the Mary L. Bair American Legion Auxiliary #44 until it closed. She had worked for the Bolen Café, Deeter's Market, Holton Locker, and Betty's Coach House Café.
Edith was married to William Andrew Cox on February 28, 1925. He preceded her in death in 1934. To this union four children were born: Gene A. Cox, Doris Irene Cox Metzke, Betty Lou Cox McGee and Richard Lee Cox. Her daughters, Doris and Betty preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Emma Heitman, brothers, Floyd, Earl, and Jay McGehe and her youngest brother Forrest Dean McGehe, who was killed May 13, 1945, in World War II in the Negros Islands.
Surviving are her sons Gene and his wife Mary of Hanover, PA, and Richard and his wife Dorothy of Holton: her son-in-law Willis E. McGee of Holton, five grandsons: Michael L. McGee (Carol) of Hoyt, Bruce A. Cox (Paula) of Topeka, William M. Cox of Lawrence, David B. Cox (Teuka) of Topeka, and Tom Metzke (Cindy) of Streeter, IL; three granddaughters: Carolyn McGee Jacobsen (Dale) of Delia, Jo McGee Ingels (Steve), Deb Cox D'Orvilliers (Dennis) all of Holton: twenty great-grandchildren and nineteen great-great-grandchildren. Also she is survived by three special nephews, David, Don, and Bruce McGehe.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Jackson County Friends of Hospice or the Arthritis Foundation in care of Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
