Duane Arthur Klahr, 67, of Holton, KS passed away May 21, 2013 at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 12, 1946 in Holton, the son of Arthur F. and Wilma Hannah Alvina (Rannebeck) Klahr.
Duane graduated from Netawaka High School in 1964. He then proudly served in the Army National Guard beginning in 1965. As a member of the 69th Brigade, he was activated in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War from May to October in 1969. He worked for General Foods in Topeka and retired after 23 years. He continued working as a farmer. Duane was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka.
He married Barbara Sue Olson on October 1, 1966 in Netawaka. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Doug Klahr of Wetmore, KS; a daughter-in-law, Inga Klahr of Wetmore, KS; 2 grandsons, Trevor and Garrett Klahr both of Wetmore, KS; 3 sisters, Delores Vitt of Auburn, KS, Darlene Wulfkuhle of Topeka, KS and Donna Porter of Holton, KS and a brother, Delwin Klahr of Holton, KS.
Duane was preceded in death by his son, Darrek Klahr on October 29, 2011 and his sister, Donnis McCall in 2013.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Netawaka. Burial with full military honors will be in the Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
