Douglas Spencer Brown

Douglas Spencer Brown passed away on May 31, 2026 in Olathe, Kansas, following a long hard battle from prostate cancer. He was born on October 11, 1961, in Sabetha, Kansas, to George and Barbara Morris Brown.

Doug grew up in several Kansas communities, including Wetmore, Holton, Marysville, and Anthony, as his parent’s pursued careers in education. Coming from four generations of educators, he was proud of his family's legacy of service and community involvement. He carried that spirit throughout his life, serving on nonprofit boards and supporting causes that strengthened the communities around him.

As a young man, Doug graduated from Chaparral High School in Anthony, KS and excelled in athletics, earning a basketball scholarship to attend college at Emporia State University. He went on to build a successful business career, rising to executive leadership roles that took him across the United States and around the world. Known for his sharp mind, attention to detail, and ability to simplify complex problems, he embraced innovation and technology while never losing sight of the importance of relationships.

Throughout his career, Doug called many places home, including Austin, Chicago, St. Louis, Tulsa, Charlotte, the Kansas City area, and his favorite, Las Vegas. He often joked that he was a "gypsy," always ready for the next adventure.

Doug's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his family. He shared 38 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lisa. Together they raised two children, William Spencer Brown and Lauren Elizabeth Korte, and created a life centered on faith, family, travel, and making memories together.

Becoming a grandfather brought Doug his deepest happiness. His four grandchildren filled his life with purpose and joy. Whether teaching them how to carve a pumpkin, cut a pineapple, swing a bat, fly a kite, or simply enjoy a good meal together, Doug treasured every moment. More than anything, he loved being present for the people he cared about.

In the end, Doug's priorities were simple: faith in Jesus, family, friendship, and gathering around the table for taco nights with those he loved. If heaven has taco nights, there's no doubt Doug is already helping organize one.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, George Nelson Brown; his grandson, Wilson Lane Korte; and his mother-in-law, Karen Meares.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Brown; his son, Spencer Brown, daughter-in-law Satya, and granddaughter Thea of Columbus, Ohio; his daughter, Lauren Korte, son-in-law Zack, and grandsons Colton Douglas Korte and Crew Zachary Korte of Olathe, Kansas; his mother, Barbara Brown Hutchinson of Circleville, Kansas; his father-in-law, William Meares of Leawood, Kansas; his brother, Luke Brown; his sister, Georgia Flood; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A celebration of Doug's life was held on June 15th at 2:00pm at Westside Family Church in Lenexa, KS.

A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Holton, Kansas at the Holton Cemetery.
