Obituary

Dorothy E. Sullivan, 93, Valley Falls, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center at Winchester.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1920, in the Rock Creek area in Jefferson County, the daughter of Fred A. and Vinus Eshom Laird. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1939.

Dorothy had worked as a nurse's aide at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital for 12 years, at Valley View Nursing Home and was a telephone operator for the United Telephone Co.

She was a member of the Valley Falls Christian Church and later the Nortonville Christian Church. She had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess and Secretary of the Board. She belonged to the Delaware Valley Quilters, NE Kansas Quilt Guild, Sunflower HDU, Forget-Me-Not Club, and was treasurer of the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Dorothy married Richard Sullivan on June 4, 1940, at Paola. He died on Dec. 6, 1995.

Survivors include three sons, Terry (Sondra) Sullivan, and Fred Sullivan, all of Valley Falls, and Don (Carolyn) Sullivan, Fairway; a daughter, Linda (Bill) Clawson, Hoyt; a sister, Phyllis Needham, Glenwood Springs, CO; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Nortonville Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery.
