Dorothy L. Boyd, 88, Valley Falls, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at LinnWood Park care facility at Meriden.

She was born on April 16, 1924, at Valley Falls, the daughter of LeRoy Samuel and Clara Edith Kneedy Gentry. She graduated from Valley Falls High School.

Dorothy worked at Nellis Funeral Home and later Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. She had worked part time for the Kansas Department Revenue for tax preparation, and at Coleman's IGA and Gragg's Restaurant, both in Valley Falls. She had been a member of the former Baptist Church in Valley Falls and later was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church.

She married Alfred E. "Curly" Boyd on Sept. 29, 1952, at Bentonville, AR. He died on Dec. 1, 1984. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Millard Gentry, in infancy, and two grandsons, Brandon Bickford in 2001, and Cameron Bickford in 2008.

Survivors include two sons, LeRoy (Joyce) Boyd, and Pat (DeDe) Boyd, all of Valley Falls; two daughters, Linda Mooney, and companion, Bill Hards, Denison, and Vivian (Tim) Bickford, Valley Falls; a sister, Vivian L. Smith, Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
