Obituary

Doris Mae Oxandale, 89, of Wetmore, KS passed away Thursday, September 14 2023 at the Holton Hospital in Holton, KS. She was born August 13, 1934 in Goff, KS the daughter of Gerald Francis and Ruby Marie (Porter) Sourk. She graduated from Goff High School in 1952. She earned her teaching certificate from Emporia State University and returned to Washburn University to further her education in administration.

On June 6, 1954, Doris was united in marriage to Glenn Ernest Oxandale in Goff, Kansas. They shared over 69 years of marriage.

Doris was a middle school teacher for a year at Stoney Point in Kansas City. She also taught at Pleasant Grove, Bateman, Netawaka, Whiting and Jackson Heights. She retired in 1993. After retirement, she worked at the Netawaka Post Office and substitute taught at Jackson Heights and Wetmore Schools.

She was very active in her community where she was a member of the Netawaka Methodist Church, OES Chapter # 413 and volunteered at the Netawaka Senior Center. She also coached softball and basketball. Doris was an avid sports fan.

Doris is survived by her husband Glenn of the home; a daughter, Sheri Dibbern (Paul) of Netawaka, KS and a son, Rod Oxandale of Wetmore, KS; 4 sisters, Beverly Sourk of Topeka, KS, Sue Heaton (Ken) of Holton, KS, Nancy Gosling of Goff, KS and Linda Burleson (Paul) of Denton, TX; a brother, Dr. Charles Sourk (Pam) of Scott City, KS; 3 grandchildren, Dr. Brett Oxandale (Brooke), Brent Oxandale (Stephanie) and Amber Dibbern (Clint Prohaska); and 4 great grandchildren, Jase, Gavin, Emmy and Kyser.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Beth Clowe; a brother, Gerald E. Sourk; and twin great-grandchildren, Lily Lynn and Joseph Lawrence.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with the burial to follow at the Netawaka Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 P.M., Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be made to the Jackson Heights Endowment c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
